mountain-golfingDid you know that according to Golf 365,  the states with the most golf courses are Florida, California, Texas, New York, and Michigan? That means most courses are located in the warmest regions of the country, which makes perfect sense. After all, lucky golfers in Florida, California, and Texas can golf yearround. For those of us in the northern part of the country, summer is the time to break out the clubs and play as much as we can until our next season settles in. Yet, even us Midwesterners can find the summer heat oppressive for golfing and long for a cooler course to improve our game.

The good news is that there are plenty of golf courses in the northern U.S. that feature refreshing breezes off the water, and the crisp air that the north is known for. Some of these courses offer greater privacy and novelty, located in a more remote location that’s void of tourist traps and heavy traffic. Consequently, they are better served by closer, smaller, municipal airports, where we land our private jet charter flights at RAI Jets.

Ready to escape the summer heat and enjoy the cooler climate? Here are some excellent courses that can easily be reached with a private jet charter flight.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN

Arcadia Bluffs, Arcadia, Michigan

Known for their beauty and charm, the courses at Arcadia Bluffs feature two unique courses, each offering undulating terrain and a tranquil game.  On the Bluffs Course, golfers are treated to stunning views of the soaring Lake Michigan shoreline over the edge of the sandy cliff walls. In the Scottish tradition, a lone bagpiper plays on weekends as the sun sets over the horizon. For easy access, book your private jet charter and fly into nearby Manistee Airport (MBL).

Boyne Mountain Resort, Boyne Falls, Michigan

Near and dear to our hearts are the golf courses at Boyne Mountain! With its own private airport, we delight in shuttling golfers in private jet charters to this Michigan gem via jet charter. There are ten courses to choose from at three incredible mountain resorts. Enjoy the exhilarating northern Michigan summer air and extra-long days as you golf on courses designed by legendary architects Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and Arthur Hills and heralded by golf organizations as some of the best in the country. Fly into the Boyne Mountain airport, across the street from the resort. Ask us about all-inclusive golf packages from RAI Jets!

The Jewel, Mackinac Island, Michigan

Mackinac Island is one of Michigan’s most historic and unique vacation spots to cool off in the summer. Across from the world-famous Grand Hotel is the Jewel Golf Course, a Michigan tradition since 1901. The golfing experience includes a horse-drawn carriage ride between the two nine-hole courses that make up the jewel. Enjoy stunning views of the Straits of Mackinac at this course and the energizing lake breeze when you tackle this gorgeous course, which has been ranked among the top ones in the state. You’ll fly into MCD, Mackinac Island’s airport.

NORTHEAST

Sugarloaf Mountain, Carrabasset Valley, Maine

Head as far north as you can go in the country and try a golf game in Maine! Maine summers offer terrific temperatures for golf, with averages in the high 70s.  Sugarloaf Mountain is a top ski resort in winter and offers stunning mountain views and an elevation to keep you cool during your game. Golf Digest calls the course a “true ball-striking test” bordered by forests and natural rocks. Challenging drops and numerous shelves make this course a character-builder for any golfer. We could fly you into nearby Augusta State (AUG) to get you there.

Sunday River, Newry, Maine

About an hour south of Sugarloaf Mountain is Sunday River Resort, a whimsical course with twisty elevations, changing terrain, and sprawling mountain views throughout. Available to beginners and seasoned golfers alike, the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Although it can be intimidating to the new golfer, the course is considered one of the best mountain golf experiences in the Northeast.  We would use nearby Belmar Airport (BLM) for your private jet charter flight.

WEST

Big Sky Resort, Big Sky, Montana

In winter, it’s a thriving ski lodge but in summer, the Big Sky Golf Course flaunts its verdant greens, rimmed by soaring mountain views and babbling creeks. Built at an elevation of 6,500 feet, the 18-hole, par 75 golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer and includes gold, blue, white, and red tee boxes. Private jet charter flights arrive at the nearby Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.

The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, Big Sky, Montana

There’s a reason they call it “big sky” country! Surrounded by a sea of blue with billowing clouds and nestled between mountains on all sides, the Reserve at Moonlight Basin is a nationally-ranked course and is known to be a tough one. Golfing at a higher elevation—7,500 feet above sea level—is an athletic challenge although you’ll be refreshed by the cooler temperatures throughout your game. Beautiful views abound from each hole. To get there, fly into nearby Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in your private jet charter.

Rock Creek Cattle Company, Deer Lodge, Montana

This course is a Montana gem that has repeatedly ranked among Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Courses. The masterfully designed green was crafted from a working cattle ranch and winds through pasture, aside glistening streams, and is adorned with fescue and sagebrush. The course claims to give an advantage to players who are “great putters and have a sharp, short game.”  Private jet charter flights can land at Deer Lodge County Airport, 45 minutes south of the resort.

With a private jet charter flight, you can visit courses off the beaten path and enjoy exclusivity and a unique experience. Don’t forget that a private jet charter flight also means you can bring your friends, and they can bring their clubs! Most travel golf bags fit inside the luggage compartment of private jets, depending on the size of your party. So if the summer heat starts to stifle and the course is calling, book a private jet charter flight headed north where the air is clear and the courses are cool. Contact us to book your flight!
